Move-out cleaning is most efficient after belongings, food and loose debris have been removed. The goal is to leave the property clean and presentable for inspection, possession or the next occupant—not to perform repairs or construction work.
Before the cleaning team arrives
- Remove personal belongings, food and garbage.
- Defrost and empty appliances when interior appliance cleaning is requested.
- Confirm working water, electricity and safe access.
- Identify keys, alarms, parking and elevator-booking requirements.
- Advise the cleaner about damaged surfaces or areas requiring special care.

Bathrooms and living areas
Bathrooms usually require attention to fixtures, mirrors, tubs or showers, toilets, counters and floors. Bedrooms and living areas typically include dusting reachable surfaces, wiping selected trim, cleaning interior glass where included and vacuuming or washing floors.
What cleaning does not replace
Ordinary move-out cleaning does not repair damaged walls, remove hazardous materials, dispose of construction debris, restore permanently stained surfaces or perform pest remediation. These conditions should be disclosed before scheduling.
Plan around the possession date.
Allow enough time for cleaning, drying, inspection and any final corrections before keys change hands.
